Southern Star Ranch K9
Training Center

Our Arson Dogs are trained to work around physical obstacles and discriminate scents of various accelerants used to set fires. All arson dogs are trained in the passive response, i.e., to sit on the odor, so as not to disturb any evidence at the scene. The arson dog is trained to discriminate the scent of hydrocarbons, the substance most commonly found at an arson fire scene. Substances that an Arson Detection Dog can detect include:

  1. Gasoline
  2. Lighter fluid
  3. Charcoal starter
  4. Diesel
  5. Kerosene
  6. Acetone
  7. Coleman fuel
  8. Brake fluid
  9. Paint thinner
  10. Turpentine
  11. Naphtha
  12. ....and more

Your dog will be fully trained when he is picked up. Our dogs are put through a minimum of 12 weeks extensive training. Every endeavor is made to provide training that is as realistic as possible. In this fashion the K-9 teams are prepared for the problems they encounter in their actual work environment when they return to active duty. Once the dogs have completed training, your handler will go through an extensive handling course with his new partner. The price of the dog includes a two week handler school.

Each handler attending the course must earn certification before returning to duty using his canine. However, any handler desiring extra training time will be given that time at no additional charge. After the handler's course, we guarantee the dog for six months. We believe that any handler actively working and doing proper upkeep training with his dog should see any problem in this time period. If any problem should arise, and the dog cannot be retrained, the dog will be replaced with another dog of equal value and training.

Breeds available for your selection usually include:

  1. Labrador Retriever
  2. Golden Retriever
  3. Mixes

We look forward to working with you and your department. Feel free to contact Wayne Booth at
